OT: Thicker vs. Thinner wall mirror glass?

OT: Thicker vs. Thinner wall mirror glass?
Down at Lowe's yesterday but, of course, nobody knowledgable to talk to. So, I turn to you guys-- an inexhaustable repository of knowledge.
I'm putting up a 4' x 3' sheet of mirror (no frame) on a bedroom wall. Comes in 1/8" thickness or 1/4" thickness glass. Except for weight and perhaps durability, is there a difference in clarity or whatever?
(To give this post bike content: I will certainly pass by this mirror with eyes shut when wearing my bike gear.)

What about going to a real glass shop and asking there? You can always go back to Lowe's and make the purchase.
As for help at Lowe's, I worked there in the evenings for six months and can attest to the fact that there is almost no training. It was basically, point the customer to the higher priced product and don't get hurt or hurt a customer.

No difference in clarity. 1/4 will not break as easy if you smack it. What kind of support are you going to use? If you are not sure what you are doing you are a lot better off going to a glass shop and getting someone to install it for you.

The quality of the reflected image is a function of the purity of the glass (transparency) + the type and quality of the reflective coating
If you want the best, stay far away from the big box boys, go to a glass shop.

I have always found that antique mirrors are best. They used to make them better in the good old days. Car boot sales are a good place to find them- or garage sales. We got one about 25 years ago and it is superb. I think the previous owner must have been called Barnum or something similar as it is one of those Trick Mirrors you find at Fair grounds. Makes the wife look fabulously slim but If I stand sideways- I always look as though I have a Beer Gut.
