Hello All
I'm new here. I bought My bike from Marlboro, I think around 1992 for $115 and some 3700 Marlboro Miles.
I didn't ride it, because it was uncomfortable and I thought maybe down the road when they outlaw cigarettes completely, it might be worth something. Well this spring I caught the cycling bug. None of the shops around here would give me as much as I payed for it, for a trade on a comfort style bike, even though it had less than 25mi on it. So I did some upgrading to it to fit my riding style, when the shop people said it would be a waist of time and money. It was my time and money and now I have a bike I enjoy riding.

Don't listen to the haters. If it's a bike you ride, then every penny you spend is worth it. I've spent enough money on my Raleigh Twenty to buy a mid range Bike Friday, but I wouldn't have had the same satisfaction of riding a bike I put together myself. Enjoy the ride,

i have that fuji bike almost stock except for a spring beach cruiser seat....
i like your upgrades ..but how much does it weigh now ? i thought it was a bit heavy already
so i've only changed the seat..to make it a softer ride..

How well does it shift now? I assume the twist grip shifters are not 5-speed!?

What is the rear spacing of the frame? (inside of rear dropout to inside of rear dropout)
What is the OLD of the rear wheel? (outside of locknut to outside of locknut)
Does it use a freewheel or a cassette?

Sorry for all the questions, but I think you might run into compatibility and shifting problems if you change it from 5 to 7 speed.

The bike shifts great now with the Sram X Gen front dérailleur.The stock Shimano front dérailleur never shifted right no matter how I adjusted it.
The stock Shimano SIS rear shifts very well. I have Sram twist-grip 3x5sp shifters now and 7sp Sram shifter coming with the 7sp Freewheel Cluster.
It has around 128mm rear spacing, 190mm axle length. If it dosn't work, Sheldon Brown is the one to blame, he suggested I go that route, instead of going to taller gearing on the outer chainring. https://sheldonbrown.com/mega7/

You pull the seat post out and the bike folds back on it's self by the joints in the top and bottom bars. The old handlebars had a quick release also and snapped into the clips on the top bar. With the new quill and bars, thats not an option now. Maybe I can post some more pictures with it folded.

The only thing that added weight were the forks, the tires, handlebars, stem and quill, crank and chainrings are lighter than the stock parts.

If Sheldon "THE MAN" Brown suggested it then it will work, I'm sure of that.

I was just surprised because I thought you wanted to pair a 5sp grip shifter/rear derailler with a 7sp freewheel. That would probably be hard if not impossible to get to work reliably.

Like Sheldon says, The rear derailer doesn't know if it is a 5,6,7,8 or 9sp. only the shifter knows. I just hope the old SIS derailer works as good with the 7sp cluster, as it does with 5sp.

I would definitely keep it, if it were mine!
Maybe put on a rigid fork and slick tires, and you got a great folding, city commuter bike.

I put the shock forks on and could switch the stock Fuji Cro-Mo forks back on at anytime.
The tires are very close to a street slick, with shoulder knobs for some grip, in the dirt. These tires are fast, that's why I'm switching to some higher gears.

Hi Glenn,
I just bought one of these and it's a real rat. It's missing some pieces like the quick release part for the handlebars and it has some cheap crappy handlebar and grips and levers. I was wondering if you happened to have any of that stuff still? Even the pedals are mistmatched and the seat looks like crap.

The only reason I bought it is because I already spent $25 on gas for my friends car and $16 in tolls to get there and I didn't want to leave empty handed after bumming a ride.

I have seen them for half that on locally on CL.
I would not pay that, but that's me. Maybe there is value there that I don't appreciate.
The quality level is not that high, but neither is it on a Raleigh 20 and that's what they sell for.

It topped @$202.50. And TBH I think it's really only worth about $100 for me because of the frame. I'd have eventually swapped every part on the thing anyways. I lost, and I feel relieved - no buyers remorse. I HATE buyers remorse!!!

I'll just go upgrade my tank or speed demon (Puma Nevis or Power2000) to an IGH and enjoy. For $265 my LBS will lace one in for me,... I think I'll go with that instead.

Here is a question for an old thread I just dragged this bicycle out of the weeds the other day and started reading this forum for info (have had this bike for several years and did not know it folded lol) So I have caught the fixie bug and decided to make up for my sin of omission of proper care and maintenance and put it on a diet too. The crank was stripped and the local bike shop "Bike City in Searcy" was really cool and let me replace it in their shop (kewl tools) with one that they had in stock. The gears (not the original 28,38,48) are really set up more for climbing best I can tell (still learning) anywho It appears that my BB crank bolt sticks out further than it should and as a result my alignment is way off and the derailleur doesn't have enough reach move the chain up ( I know change the bolt) But my Question is did any of you guys that modified/improved your bike run into that? I never have read in any of these forums that anyone has changed the crank bolt.

Sounds like you're running into a chainline issue. You didn't mention what you replaced the 28-38-48 triple crank with, but I'll bet that your spindle is too long. If you're just running a single chainring, you don't need front derailleur travel, so a shorter spindle would probably help restore your chainline. A pic of your specific problem would speak volumes here.
