Elevated Heart after ride today

Today was the first hard ride of the year. 50 mile, very fast, and we came back into the wind. I have been home for 4 hours after the ride, and my heart rate is still at 100. My normal heartrate is about 70-74. Any ideas?

Really dehydrated? That's kind of a high resting HR for a cyclist. More base! More just riding at a comfortable pace, building up the miles. That's what we all say, just ride your bike more, even though that may not be possible if you have a life.

Is it holding steady at 100? Age? Any possibility it's atrial fibrillation (not usually dangerous, just scary)?

It was really steady at about 100 last night. I got up this morning and it was 57. Working around the house this morning its about 72. Maybe I just over did it, and was a bit dehydrated.

An elevated heart rate is normal after an extended period of exertion.

Happens to me sometimes too, generally if I've done a run/ride/hike etc. much longer than my usual and/or it's hot out. Dehydration is probably a contributing factor--make sure to replenish fluids.

Congratulations. You worked out and your body maintained an elevated heartrate after the workout. Welcome to the world of endurance training.
