Peugeot I.D HELP.
Hello. I bought this Peugeot for 20 Euro (I'm stationed in Belgium) I have no clue what model this is. The serial number confuses me since it appears to have a second letter (C) but it might just be a 0
(Y9C4 34567?). You'll see the pic. Also the lettering on the downtube is gold or yellow not black like most I've seen. Any help in I.D.ing this bike would be great. Thanks in advance.

The steel, cottered crankset in conjunction with the Simplex derailleurs and serial number indicate circa 1979/1980. The stamped dropouts and fully painted fork indicate a base model. The pic is a bit fuzzy to tell the construction. If it's lugged, I'd say it is an AO8. If it's lugless, a PH8 would be the best candidate. Though in both cases, given the era, I would have expected stem shifters.

Thanks for the reply. SOrry for the bad pic. I'll post a better one. It's lugless and it does have stem shifters. So was it worth 20 Euro? Also, is this bike worth putting money into to be rideable? Thanks.

I think it was worth your $20E , I have two lugless Peugeots, I like them alot.
Clean and re-grease everything, maybe change the stem if you are going to ride it a lot, new seat and ride the heck out of it.

I was just given a Peugeot with downtube shifters and carbolite 103 fork.
The serial number is: Y50121021
Anyone have any idea of when it was made/what model it is?
It's got a Sachs Rival RD and a Sachs FD and weimann center pull brakes.
Thanks a lot!

Oh, and that poor rear derailler looks to be stretched to within an inch of its life in the "big-big" combination. Be carefull about trying to actually do that while riding!

Well, it's been a while since I last posted anything about this bike. I've decided to do a complete overhaul on it. I plan on repainting the frame and possibly some of the components on it with better but cheap ones (if that makes sense). Here are a few more pics of it. It has Mafac brake levers and weinnman calipers, which I plan on keeping since they do a great job stopping. What is a cheap cotter less crank that would fit this bike? I will be posting pics as I go along with this project. I'm looking forward to any feed back and opinions from any one who's willing to provide them to me.

Excellent assesment. With the exception of the shifters its identicle to the PH8 in my 1981* U.S. catalogue.

Nice scan Jim!
Looks like the PH8 became the P8 with the switch to cotterless cranks. I know the '82 Catalog shows the P8 and no PH8.

Yes, that appears to be the case. In 1982 there was the P8 (cotterless no lugs, stell wheels), UO9 (cotterless lugged steel wheels), UO10 (cotterless, lugged, alloy wheels)

Thanks! I now have an idea of what I can get this bike of mine to look like. I'm almost done taking it apart. I had some problem with the seat post, but I managed to force it out with the help of a can of whoop ass. I'll post some pics so I can get some feedback on the condition of the frame and so forth. Thanks guys once again.

I love this forum, I was trying to ID a Pug I just rescued from the dump. It's rough but I imagine it's some form of 10 series bike. It's a US version with stem shifters, a six speed 14-28 Suntour cassette, cotterless crank (nervar 175mm), lugless frame (DBS), and Rigida 27" alloy wheels. The bike tips the scale a little under 23lbs without kickstand, bar tape and one suicide brake lever. The bike was white and gold but tyhe only decal in good shape was the Carbollte 103 frame ID. Was there a P10 that fit this description?

1: wheel size (27")
2. tubing (103)
3. color (white)
4. decal scheme on TOP TUBE Rainbow? lengthwise stripes? checkerboard?
5. derailleurs
6. brakes
and I'll get the model info for you.

Thanks for the reply. There are parallel purple and gold stripes along both sides of the downtube that break up into a checkerboard pattern as they approach the bottom bracket. The brakes are Formos center pull type and the derailleurs are both Shimano. The bike was so filthy that I couldn't read the model numbers but the production stamp looks like a Y162 series serial number. Hope this enough to get a definitive identification. I could imagine the bike looking very sharp in its day but I don't want to look into restoring it if there is no value in it.

I thought all the '8' series bikes had steel wheels? I think you might be right though because on Ebay, I found the paint scheme. Look here https://cgi.ebay.com/PEUGEOT-PH8-58cm...QQcmdZViewItem picture it in white and then imagine the pinstripes on the downtube being purple and gold and breaking up in the checkered pattern. The top tube and seat tube have lost their decals and paint but what's left looks alot like the link above. Are you sure this isn't a 10 series bike?

I'm getting closer. The paint scheme looks like 1983, in fact, I can imagine the bike looking very much like the PH12 in the 83 catalog. Just replace the orange and black stripes with purple and gold and you are there visually but this bike has center pull Formos calipers and all the high end bikes appear to have side pull brakes. Is this a ba$tard bike or a custom order?
