Noticed how the northern hemisphere days are getting shorter and shorter now?
And our days in the southern hemisphere are getting longer and longer. The winter solstice (for us) came and went this last weekend. Roll on spring and summer!
Make the most of what you've got left, northern neighbours.

Yeah it is all down hill from here! I spent the evening of the solstice perched on a outcrop of granite on a crater lake sipping wine and reading my book, while the sun slowly faded over the rocky horizon.

The longest day of the year here in the north was yesterday. Thanks to the rain it was very enjoyable for all of us.

I think the timing of our seasons in Australia is dumb. It would make more sense to initiate our seasons on the solstice as opposed to the first day of the month. Everyone feels that December is still spring and March summer yet our calendar thing makes them summer and autumn respectively. The solstice brings on the season and whilst the days may be getting longer in the Southern Hemisphere that 3 degrees this morning did not feel like spring!!

Still, this summer shouldn't be as bad as the last one. The signs are that this drought is slowly breaking, meaning that water restrictions this time around shouldn't be severe enough to prevent me from re-filling my water bottles on hot days.
