hi, could anyone help me decide if it would be a good idea building this frame up

its a 05 (i think) carrera banshee frame, i bought the whole bike from halfords when i didnt know much about bikes but then later on i realised the components were rubbish.

i would be using the bike for moderate freeride and some trail use. it would be put together with a pike 140mm, i would also upgrade the rear shock.

I think you better give it to me before you hurt yourself.

so it doesnt matter that its like a 'wall-mart' bike? its halfords own brand and it was £400 as a complete bike. do you think i was just paying for the frame when i bought it as all the components were definatley lacking.

Looks like a Kinesis/Hi-Bike/Fill-in-the-blank catalog frame of some stripe. You should be OK. Don't try to go real big with it.

yeah i wasnt planning on going real big. 5ft drop-offs would probarly be the most i would go. it would usualy just be used as a trail bike anyway. so do you think the frame would easily cope with 140mm as it came with a suntour 80mm or something.

How much rear travel does the frame have?

im not sure, is that a problem if i was to upgrade the shock anyway?

No, just make sure you have the correct length and all. There is a thread around here with $99 shock specials via santa cruz for some pretty decent shocks.

yeah i was just looking at that! i was just thinking, by fitting a bigger shock, wont the swinger be pushed down on the other side and make the bike geometry go all whack?

so this isnt the same brand of banshee as the hardcore banshee
