Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

My SL4 Tarmac

...with DA 7800 grouppo and wheels.
Wheeled straight out of the LBS.

I'm still not sure about the polished look of the cranks but love the look of the wheels.

My 2013 Trek Madone 3.1. I switched to white bar tape, a white Specialized Romin EVO Expert saddle with Ti rails, and switched the stock SRAM crankset for a Bontrager RXL carbon unit. The black part hanging off the back of the saddle is an ASS-SAVER fender I got for riding when there's a possibility of rain. This past weekend I switched the stock tires for Continental Gator Hardshells, which ride really well!

Love it!

Just picked this up (I'll get better pics later) from the bike shop today. 2013 Tarmac Comp with Boyd wheels. The upgraded wheels and 25mm tires made a substantial difference over stock just riding in the parking lot. I upgraded from a 2007 Fuji Team; can't wait to hit the mountains.

For the ugliest carbon bike, that's not too bad looking Roubaix.

Recently bought a used pair of HED wheelset and semi-converted my Cervelo S1 into a time trial bike. It is my first riding experience with solid disc wheel. The "foo...foo...foo...." wind noise is awesome. I tried them out on a windy day and got blown sideway many times. Will take some time to get used to.

Built this up on a budget, finally making my return to time trialling 3 years after breaking my back.
Mainly sourced on ebay/classifieds with brand new groupset. Cost me under £1000 (under $1700) -
Swiss frame and forks £200
Hed H3 Tubular front wheel £200
3T Aura Pro bars £100
Ultegra 6800 groupset £250 (brand new)
custom carbon fibre rear wheel disc cover for a powertap wheel I already had. £140
Saddle, bottle, stem, cables etc £80
Had the tyres and Zero Gravity Ti brakes lying about unused. I move the pedals between this and my track bike.

Just bought my first road bike from a buddy that's moving out of country, hoping to put enough miles on it this year to earn a nicer bike next year. 2005 Trek 1000, Sora in back, 105 in front, ultegra brakes, in decent shape tho in bad need of TLC. Going to tear it down, degrease and lube, debadge, but my seat on it, re-wrap the handle bars, might not replace the cables since everything works.
$150 plus whatever I put into it... did I do ok?
(oh, and it FITS!)
Upgrade! Put a new cassette and chain on that one, cleaned it up, sold it for too much, bought this for too little:
2006 Giant OCR Composite, hardly ridden by a very sweet elderly lady that claims 300 miles a year since '07, but I have a hard time believing it. Went from sora/105 to all 105, 8spd to 10spd, alu to carbon, threw in a set bag and pump that I'm not sure about. Also, not sure I want this adjustable stem. I have a bontrager that will work fine, likely swap that. Has mbt pedals, need to get some road pedals and shoes.
Took it up the local reservoir two days after I bought it: 22.4 mi, 1:41 hr, 1477 elev gain, avg 13.28 mph. Not huge for some but way harder road biking than I've ever done. Bike was sweet.
The OCR is billed as a bit more enduro than aero, and I'd agree, but with the bars slammed I didn't feel like I was losing anything, and Strava claims I broke 61 mph on a downhill. Felt like 100, was probably 50.

An "elderly" woman rode that?

I usually average 12-14 MPH in my area with lots of rolling hills, and the fastest I've ever hit on a downhill was something like 36 or 37 MPH in my highest 50-11 gear.
