Conventional looking pants/trousers?
So I mostly wear bike shorts/tights and for myself I would happily walk around all
day in them. Some places frown on these of course, I have carried a pair of fairly
conventional looking light nylon pants to slip over the shorts but this is not terribly
comfortable. What do you suggest for a pair of pants that is comfy to pedal in
but doesn't look out of place in a casual business setting? Jeans, which is what I
often wear off the bike, suck for riding. It would be nice if the cost was reasonable,
they were durable, and widely available.

You might try a padded set of briefs like these

Not the same as a set of cycling shorts but is probably more confortable to wear under a pair of regular pants than cycling shorts would be.

I would shop around at an outdoor gear store. North Face, for example, makes a line of casual/active clothing that is comfy and attends to details like seams and stiching but, at the same time, is not overly techy or expensive.

Get and old tube sock and cut the foot off. Put the sock on over your pants leg. Bring cloves just incase you need to touch the chain.
Consider bringing a change of dress, they sell panniers for cloths
