It just keeps coming! I can't get out and ride, not because of the rain, but because of the FLOODING! Marble Falls, TX, a few hours away from here got 19 inches in ONE NIGHT, and now it's raining hard there again...weatherman says possibly another 5-8 inches there. Those poor people are underwater!

I may ride despite the weather to go see the Blanco River later today. Should be pretty swollen, and worth the trouble, though likely it will be over the road I take, and cut my ride short by 10 miles....

Anyway, I am frustrated about the weather, and thinking about all those people right now in much more dire straights than I...let's hope the rain subsides quickly.

Oh, on a side note...I study rivers, you Texans may be interested to check this out. That's a link to the USGS stream gages in Texas. It gives a color coded 'dot' for each gage. Almost the entire state has black or dark blue dots (90th percentile and up)! Fun site to explore!The state truly is flooded, and doesn't need this rain right now...

We just received our notices in the mail yesterday that we are still under Stage 3 drought restrictions in Allen, Texas.

Our area was Stage 3, but now we have way too much! All of the Highland lakes are flooding. Wanna come down here and takes some water with you?

It is hard to believe that you guys are still in drought also. Allen is just north of Plano right? I have family in that area, and they're getting pretty wet also. Well if it's true, I hope yall get the rain you need.

Frisco dropped us to stage 2. I know we are "officially" out of the drought
but I can see where 1 bad summer with no rain (like last year) and we're right
back where we started.
that said, I'd sure like to get some riding time in.

The only reason we are still in stage 3 drought restrictions is for political, not environmental, reasons. We got a letter from our wise city fathers stating they are trying to show the Water District that we can still conserve water even in these times so that they may be granted some sort of new filing or some shiite. It's really quite ridiculous. If they want to conserve water, we need to STOP building mammoth housing and shopping center projects. Stop planting LAWNS and use native drought resistant plants instead. But I digress...

I see...I totally agree. I get arghhed at the fact we complain about water usage, but continue to water our huge St. Augustine lawns, etc.

I have several neighbors whose sprinklers come on ever other night, EVEN when it is raining.

Call them in, I would. We had a sprinkler system installed last month. I have never seen it run. EVER! I am guessing the rain sensor is working as designed.

I have moss in my back yard. On a side note this rain is killing my knee. I have been going to the gym to run and man I soon realized why I love biking, It does not make my knee stiffen up like a board.

Funny you mention Blanco. My uncle has a ranch down there and has a small bridge to get to the house from the main road and it's flooded over it now he says it's almost uncrossable. I was down there 6 months ago and it was bone dry and the water smelled like eggs.

How are the roads down there for riding? I didn't get to scope it out the last time I was there.

Yeah, the Blanco is very good at that! It is rising quick, I hope your uncle is either out for lunch, or at least is well provisioned for a bit!

If you know where to ride the roads are OK, but drivers here REALLY mistreat us cyclists. I have never been somewhere where pretty much everytime I ride I get yelled at or 'gestured'. As far as quality, most of the roads are fine, and you can REALLY get some climbing in if you like that sort of thing. There are plenty of flats also. My loop that crosses the Blanco is variable length from about 13 to 30 miles depending on where you turn, and the quality is fine. If I ride Sat of Sun morning, traffic is fine also. Quite pleasant. I was gonna do that loop today, but with the weather as it is I may just ride to the river and back...
