My 3-year old son rides a fixed gear.
I purchased this bike for 3 year old son on last Black Thursday for $30. I was unaware at the time it was a fixie. As I assembled it, I noticed the “No Brakes” decal. I thought this could either be a bad idea or a good one, no in-between. Anyway, we rolled with it.
Within one week of riding it, my son can skid, and ride backwards. I still haven’t mastered these skills. Now after a couple of weeks, he rides with no hands and controls his speed downhill really well.
Okay it’s a Huffy, however it was only $30 and is a fixed gear. The only other highlight is the foam (no flat) tires. The only modification is a “Bad Car” bell. My son hates cars as much as I.

Hey, it's ok to be skeptical but to say someone is "lying" is disrespectful. Why can't we all just give people the benefit of the doubt? Why would someone lie about something his kid can do?

This is one of those where the cranks are attached to the front wheel? Kinda like a unicycle?
Or is it actually chain-drive... I think I had both versions when I was young. Is he riding backwards with training wheels? And if it's front wheel drive I doubt he could skid.
Kids can pick stuff up amazingly fast, but please: videos.

Sounds like your kid is doing a lot better than I on my new (first) fixed gear. I did manage to skid a little the other day...although it was unintended, I'm not sure if that's a good thing or bad

He's probably not lying. I learned to ride on a two wheel fixed. It was a bo-bo knight rider bike-- black frame, gold anodized handlebars and (one piece) crank, and david hasselhoff graphics everywhere. i definitely remember skidding...

I bought a fixed gear (12 or 14inch) Huffy two wheeled bike with training wheels on it for my nephew who just turned three. He can ride forwards and backwards on it. So I don't have a bit of doubt about about this thread.
I think it is fascinating watching kids learn these things. Since they have no preconceived ideas about cycling (and almost everything else in life!) so they just go for it, and problems solve. With little *****ing, and have a great time while doing it. Unlike so many adults that you may encounter.

No lying here. Yes it involves training wheels. No it isn't a coaster brake. He can pedal backwards for 5-10 feet and does so when he bumps into a corner or something. I can't even skid nor pedal backwards.

My 3 year old has a similar bike but with a coaster brake. I'm sure that you could ride backwards with training wheels and if you were running the same ridiculously low gear ratio with a 12" wheel (somthing like a cadence of 100 at 6mph) you could very easily lock up the rear wheel.
