Clyde down
So it finally happened.
After one and a half summers of commuting, more than 2000km, I took my first fall last Wednesday.
Stupid fall, I was turning around in the parking lot and fell on my left side.
I'm not sure if I slipped on something, speed was very low (maybe too low)
The bad part is that my left knee somehow got stuck in a funny position and I fell with all my weight on it.
I couldn't get up, someone called an ambulance so I sat in the parking lot until they came and drove me to the ER of the Montreal General. After 16 hours of wait, xrays, ct scans and one bored doctor, they told me I could go home and that nothing was broken, but I have a possible ruptured or torn ACL or PCL. My knee had the size and colour of a large watermelon, the dark green variety.
One week later, my knee is still swollen, less green, still virtually no pain, but tremedous pressure and swelling right above the knee. I was told I ahve to wait until the swelling goes away and then get checked for ACL-PCL damage.
So to all you clydes, please be careful out there, we don't get injured, heel or move around like 150 pounders. We're big guys and everything we do or happens to us has proportionally large consequences.

Ouch! Sounds similar to the fall I took when out riding on ice this past winter. Fortunately, even though I landed hard on my knee, I did not suffer any permanent damage. My knee was pretty stiff for a few weeks, though.
Hope you heal quickly, and don't let it keep you from continuing to commute.

I did much the same thing, but managed to get the leg that I was falling towards clipped out in time. I still managed to twist my opposite knee pretty good. No damage, just bruised pride and a knee that's been bugging me slightly for a few weeks.

sorry to hear about your fall. dont know about you. but falling is a big worry of mine. i dont believe i could heal like i once did.
yesterday,i got caught out in the rain and,since rush hour was coming up,i figured i had better try to SPEED UP,Before all of the skyscrapers emptied out.
well i forgot about a big hill on my route and,the water was pooling and,running off to the side and,it was hair raising experience going down the hill. i wanted to hurry down the hill,because i didnt want a car speeding up on me from behind,blinded by the rain. luckily i got thru both left and,right turns without dumping it.
i remembered biking 101,dont grab your front brake going down a hill in the rain. or else. just used my back brake.before the intersection.
but yeah i almost peed my pants going down. i was ready for the impact.
