First day riding fixed
Hi. Just finished building my fixed gear project. Only wanted to build single speed cause it seemed like the simplest way to learn how a bike was built. Got seduced by the idea of fixed from various friends who touted the joys of riding fixed. Having put the parts in place, I haven't yet attached a front brake to my machined front wheel but I have two issues:
1. I decided on going with the powergrip pedals because I only wear sandals while riding. My forward pedal rubs on the front tire if I'm turning the wheel at a certain angle. Has anyone experienced this? Not sure if my foot is just too big (size 13) or if this is common.
2. I rode the bike to a bar 5 blocks away and a peculiar man bought me and my roomate two schooners. Riding away buzzed I happened to hit a wet patch while turning and slid sideways into the street. I'm not sure if it's the smaller wheelsize (I'm used to riding a 35c hybrid tire) or a general sensitivity that's specific to fixed bikes or the fact that I was buzzed. Rode away with a couple of body skid patches but no regrets.
Any experienced opinions are graciously appreciated.

1. It's kinda common. I have it on some bikes, but not on others (my foot is size 9). You'll learn to work around it.

If you are riding single speed, just coast through your turns, and position your pedals so they don't strike and so you don't have toe overlap. It is not an issue. I am sure having powergrips doesn't help your situation.

fúck. I assumed it was from the new saddle.
morning after I'm thinking it wasn't such a good idea to try out my new ride drunk. For some reason the worst bike accidents I've been in (3000 dollars worth of facial reconstructive surgery (that's 6 stitches for the uninsured)) occured at speeds <5mph and bac >>.08. Woke up sore as hell with a lot of puss dripping down my knee. luckily nothing dripping out the shíthole.

Their issue with toe overlap comes from having pretty large feet, we don't know the geometry or frame size. The solution for that would be to lean into turning at a higher rate of speed so there's not as much steer angle. And yes, power grips would likely help with this versus clips.
