New bike not faster than old bike

I got a GF Marlin about 6 months ago, and no matter what I do it doesn't really go much faster than my old bike -- a 1988 Cyclepro. Actually I don't think it goes faster at all unless. Any ideas for speeding up the bike??

If it is not already red, paint it red. Red is fastest.

There was a time I would have argued with you, until a recent group ride. A young guy joined our group, which is usually pretty aggressive. He was riding a low end Trek aluminum road bike. He smoked us all by a wide margin. Our group has its share of Cervelo, guru, seven, etc. riders. Money didn't count that day.

That stuff is weak, I think he should pop some No-Doz and smoke some speed.

Edit: If I had to take a guess it would be the greater selection of gearing (specifically lower low gears) that is "making" you slower. Push yourself harder.

Got it. I'm buying a yellow shirt and some red spray paint tomorrow. And if that doesn't work, maybe a class-action lawsuit against manufacturers of slow bikes.

That fork would look perfect on my ss/fs urban commuter with a coasterbrake and bar end mirrors.

you could invest in some tyres with less rolling resistance?

Find some steeper hills to go down? What cadence are you currently peddling and at which gear setup?

Are you actually serious?

Myth: Bikes are fast.
Fact: Riders are fast.

Zumba, my bike is an older carbon frame, so its actually "way heavy" not way fast, no bike is fast, lets sit all our bikes against a wall and see which one wins streetlightpoet, sounds great, go find a pair and let us know how it works out for ya!, Hills, yeah, Ive been looking around for a set, just havnt found anything yet Trekbikedude, are you feelin a little better now that I deleted the other pics? or should I delete the last pic too? let me know, you are the moderator, god forbid I should do something so outragously against the rules, like post to many pics or something!? Itll never happen again

I actually posted this as a joke. I was riding my new bike and I thought, my new bike doesn't go much faster than my old bike. Actually, it does roll better over all kinds of rocks, sand, and whatever else.

But for all the money people spend on bikes, they should aso demand SPEED! I just thought it was funny. Nevermind..

I found mine on the C and V forum after trying on flea bay and being out bid like five times on five listings! I just posted a wanted add, three days later, BAM! Done deal, flea bay has them ( Spins in 26" and 700c) every once and a while, prepare to spend a bit, everytime I lost them they were in the $300-$400 range! I have the carbon Spins with the ceramic brake wall coating, they also made a fiberglass Spin rim with regular alloy brake walls, be sure to get the ones you want
