Truvativ GXP crankset: mystery squeeking noise

I have a road bike setup with a Truvativ Rouleur compact crankset, with external GXP bearings.

It works great, but it has a mysterious squeaking noise. The noise goes on and off randomly; it will disappear for miles, suddenly start squeaking for miles, get quieter, get louder, then go off again. Sometimes it lasts less than a mile.

It's not a metallic squeak either. More plasticky or nylon-y. It sounds like something rubbing on nylon, possibly one of the outer seals.

Anyone have a similar issue with these and made it go away?

Rich

I had a TruVativ crank do the 'creak-creak-creak' thing just before the spindle came loose from the spyder. Check to see if there's 'play' in the spyder mechanism that's not related to an entire loose crank. . .which would of course be another thing all-together. BTW, I worked with my [not so local] LBS and they were able to extract a free replacement from the SRAM/TruVativ folks. Needless to say, I was a happy raven.

NOW. . .whilst all this was going down, there was another little 'creak-creak' that was a cable housing rubbing against an immaculately clean paint job making noise in time with cadence. . .just like the failing spindle.

there have been a few spindle issues with seperation from the spyder. take it in, sram is a great company and takes care of things like this no questions asked.

Indeed, I had the same problem with a Bontrager/Truvativ crankset. The LBS took it back and sent it back to the factory. I switched to an SRAM Force and have been happy.
