2006 USPRO Women's P/1/2/3 Crit. Downers Grove, IL.

I was on that corner when it happened, and yes, it is quite real.

There are dudes on HealthNet, arguably the most muscular team around, who look more feminine than LvG. I know some pretty athletic girls; NCAA track finalists, etc., and none of them look nearly as defined or muscular as LvG. Kinda makes me wonder.

I'm thinking the back part of Pic's front wheel caught the outside edge of Van Gilder's heel. The spokes in that part of the wheel are rising so Van Gilder's heel lifted, turned out and unclipped. The momentum pulled the sole of her foot into the wheel where the cleat also caught in the spokes. As the wheel continued to rotate, the cleat met up with the fork, bringing the wheel to a complete stop, thus launching Pic.

Amazing that Van Gilder did not also go down.

Looks like a fake; count the riders in the area and verify the shadows cast!

^^ let's see, 1) there's a series of photos from the crash;
2) it's reported in a reputable cycling source;
3) we have an eyewitness;
4) the 2 riders explain in a published story how it happened;

Yep it must be a fake.
