Which cycling magazine question
I have a friend who has just bought his first mountain bike. For the past two years he has ridden regularly on a road bike. He is probably going to continue to ride both for fitness, recreation, and the social benefits...
His wife tells me he does not receive a cycling magazine, and an occasion is coming up that will merit a gift.
So what do the netizens of bikeforums.net consider to be the best all around cycling magazine?

Current bikes: Unknown year Specialized (rigid F & R) Hardrock, '80's era Cannondale police bike; '03 Schwinn mongrel MTB; '03 Specialized Hard Rock (the wife's)
Gone away: '97 Diamondback Topanga SE, '97 Giant ATX 840 project bike; '01 Giant TCR1 SL; and a truckload of miscellaneous bikes used up by the kids and grand-kids

Short answer: none of them.
Seriously, virtually every cycling magazine in existence is filled with advertising (probably more of this than anything else), race results that were published on the Internet a month ago, and recycled "training/how to" articles that first appeared in 1983, and are also easy to find on the Internet.
Save your money and buy something for his bike(s) instead.

There are magazines that are focused on mountain biking and on road biking. Those include Mountain Bike and Mountain Bike Action and Road Bike Action and VeloNews.
Then there are general interest bike magazines like "Bicycling". They do light reviews of new bikes, give riding and fitness tips, how to and maintenance articles, and have numerous human interest stories.
Bicycling is panned by many here but that is to be expected. It isn't a finely focused magazine and many riders here are finely focused on their style of riding.
To each their own.
