Weight loss expressed as Bike Units?
As I approach thirty pounds lost, I'm wondering how to express that in Bike Units. Is a BU twenty pounds? Twenty Five? Thirty?
A BU = # pounds of the average (adult, two wheeled, DF) bike.
Reason I ask is when I first started back in cycling, the advice was lose weight in the engine, rather than worrying about trimming weight from the bike. Good advice, it turns out. I'm carrying around at least one less bike on my human frame and feeling much stronger and faster.
I'd just like to be more precise. So how much is a BU?

First you have to calculate how many miles you have ridden then you can do the math to calculate how many miles per pound. In the bike world we do not do mpg.
When you get the mpp figured then you will be well on your way to knowing the BU.

I think you need to be very careful figuring this out, the BU I believe is a metric measurement?!?

I've already been doing this. Have used bike units in at least three previous posts, including a reference to it in post #606 made on 8/31 in the weight loss thread.
I've been considering 20 pounds to be a normal kinda bike. Although 25 might be closer to the average.

Not that it bothers me but get the lightest bike you can and a 45lbs weight loss would be 3BU's. Even at that weight- I would struggle to lose 1/4 BU.

20 lbs is a good round number. Or you could get a bigger multiplier by using the weight weenie's record bike of 9.19 lbs. (they even weighed the decals: 2.5 grams)

Good concept but the nomenclature needs to be a bit more elegant.
?BTU = bicycle trimmed unit.

JanMM Why, of course, it's 1 055.05585 joules!
Thats why I forgot it- Another bit of outdated information since we nearly went Metric.

Does anybody know how to program a Flight Deck computer to read in furlongs? I'm thinking that if I use 8 wheel magnets that'll do it.

Right here. Just got in from riding. Dropped the Jeep in Springfield for repairs caused by a blowout on our way to Kentucky three weeks ago, and rode the bike home. Beautiful day too. Thanks for asking.
I'd like to be able to say I've lost enough bike units to be hard to see, but honesty prohibits...

Did the weight loss come from your Bottom Bracket or Front Derailleur?
