cottered/cotterless
I searched this and didn't find it, so forgive me if it's a reposted question. We have a Falcon Cycles Merckx that wants a cottered-to-cotterless conversion. Is there a good cartridge substitution, or do we have to do something crazy like facing the threads on the fixed side, or having an uneven spindle length on either side?

You may want to check in Classic & Vintage for specifics on that bike, but in general the conversion from Cottered to Cotterless is painless.
I converted my old Sears 10 speed to cotterless by simply installing a Shimano cartridge BB.
The issue would be BB threading (French/Swiss/Italian/English threading) but other than that, I know of no specific issues... Someone in C&V would be able to tell you if there was anything else to look out for, especially on that specific bike.
