Well, I took off the seat/post on my "insert name of the coolest bike you can think of right here" and just for a lark, I decided to take a spin around the neighborhood!!!!
I gotta tell ya, it was like I was forced to stand up THE ENTIRE TIME!!
I mean I definitely sat on the crossbar like I have seen the elementary school kids do, but it REALLY showed me how much I CHEAT by sitting down on the seat..........on my bike............when I ride it...............the bike!!!

I was even thinking about leaving the seatpost on, and just removing the seat!!!!
Wow, that would REALLY keep me from cheating........I mean sitting down.

Has anybody ever tried this before??
I think I could really help some people on the bubble of getting sponsored, by helping them with my latest training tool to cure laziness.

I mean I guess I could just stand up WITH the seat on, but then I would not have any reason to make a post about another destined for Bike Snob topic!!

I seem to remember a massively strong track racer attempting an hour record recently without any seat or post, just standing and sprinting the entire hour. In this case, your lame parody might be ironically accurate.

Trials bikes are set up backwards from normal bikes in that the freewheel is mounted to the cranks, and a fixed cog is mounted to the hub. In terms of ratios, it's usually around 18/16. So almost 1/1.

trails bike fails for 24" or 20" or however tiny. 26" is the realest.

So as long you're rolling along on the rear wheel, the chain is spinning? What if your pant leg gets caught? (I know, I know, trials riders don't wear pants. Just humor me...)

I don't ride trials, so I don't know, it works the same as the reverse set-up though.

Thats not always true, usually trail bike will run a tiny chainring up front, maybe a 18t - 22t and then run the first 4 or 5 cogs or a 9 speed cassette with a road derailluer. This allows for more gears and also the least amount of chain possible.

I would think its so that when you lock the rear brake you lock you're crank arms too. Thats why that bike has a disc up front and a (something else) out back. The front brake is primary because they'll endo to move the rear wheel around. On a regular bike you could still back pedal with the rear brake locked which might have something bad regarding balance happen. If you lock your rear brake in this case, your legs will stop too, but if you lock both and release your rear you could adjust your legs. I guess it transfers the endurance required from legs to hand to legs?

I saw a guy riding without bars the other day. Cheapo MTB. He was riding holding onto the stem.
Now that i think about, he couldnt have had any brakes working either.
Nothing safer than no bars, no brakes on a freewheeled bike.

First of all, does anyone know what the heck is that rim brake in the rear? And then, well, I am not convinced that the above explanation is valid: whether you have a freewheel on the rear hub or the chainring axle, you can still "backpedal" (not the FG-kind of backpedaling), i.e., your feel can move around counter to normal pedaling motion and the freewheel will allow it. The difference is only that in the case of the freewheel on the chainring, the chain will not move while you backpedal.

But you wouldn't. If there is a freewheel in the drive chain, your pedals can go backward relative to your rear wheel; it doesn't matter where the freewheel is.

I'm at a loss at to what the actual advantage of having the freewheel in front is. I suppose if you wanted a higher than 1:1 gear ratio with a minimum size gear up front (for clearance), you could run a 16T freewheel in front and cog too small for a freewheel in back. But that seems like a very small improvement and one that could be made in better ways once you're going to go with non-standard parts. Does anyone actually know the deal?
