Stay off Page Mill for now
Please stay off of Page Mill road for the next couple of weeks.
A friend of mine rode it today and reported the following:
A friend of mine rode it today and reported the following:
On Page Mill Road between Alpine and Skyline, the road surface has been completely removed, it's now just dirt and mud. I think the sign said construction between 10/29 and 11/16. It was passable today, but my tires got muddy. I assume it's gonna be pretty unpleasant when they start the re-surfacing, even if the road is never completely closed.
I had come up West Alpine so I saw it first from Skyline. Since I was going downhill on the muddy road, I had to go really slow to avoid throwing mud all over my bike. Once I got back on paved road the mud on the tires dried, then when I started going downhill the dry mud chunks flew all over the place and even hit me in the face.

I can't believe they're finally working on that piece of road. I was getting used to how crappy it was.

Yikes ... Western Wheelers is passing through there tomorrow. I think I'll send the ride leader a little warning ... they're doing OLH-WOLH, 84, Pescadero, W. Alpine, to Page Mill ... they may have to shorten it, or just go all the way to the coast, then up Tunitas.

Just went down it today. Its in the best shape Ive seen the road in for quite some time. The very top section is now very smooth having been totally repaved. Not even any pockets of gravel the whole way down.
Now if they would just repave the very top of Old la honda and all of Tunitas creek.

I always assumed (or maybe just joked) that they left the top ends of these roads in poor condition to discourage cars and motorcycles from coming down them. Now that the roads are more inviting, don't be surprised if there is a noticable increase in motor traffic.

Hey, if they repave Tunitas Creek, people might start using it to descend, and you'd have to worry about that when using the whole road to climb the steep middle third!
Besides, all those bumps, holes, patches, and decayed asphalt are part of its charm!!

+1 Right now, it's a "rustic" road.

Also, cars will start to use it.
I like Tunitas for what it is... climbing back from the coast ONLY

That's good news!
