Bikes: an old italian "SIMONELLI" Single Road-bike with Campag-Control's

Greetings from Germany...

Hello to everyone,

My name is Jens and I found this forum after Google searching for tandem information. It is amazing to get detailed input about special problems from very friendly guys here.
Sorry for partly bad English…!!
About me: I’m only a “sunshine”-biker in large size, my height is 2,05m and my weight nearly 115kg. My girlfriend has also an impressive height with 1,87m.
It is planned to buy a tandem for common fitness activities.
We recognized that finding a well matching roadtandem is really difficult (especially in Germany). Our favourite model is the SANTANA Sovereign with carbon fork and 48-spoke-wheels.
Hope to find a lot of interesting things here and want to post our experiences with a new tandem…

Best regards
Jens

Bikes: Nishiki Nut! International, Pro, Olympic 12, Sport mixte, and others too numerous to mention.

Hello Jens, I would imagine that it is indeed difficult to find an appropriate sized tandem, but they must be out there.

Why only 'sunshine' riding? Half the fun is riding through all sorts of weather .

Welcome to BF!

Hi "East Hill",
thanks for welcome greetings...
You are right, we've defined special requirements...
Tandems are not daily seen on Germany's streets. You can find only a few tandem oriented dealer.
We have to decide between 2 options:
One Cannondale dealer is situated only 800 meters far from our flat, but the guys there are experts in single road bikes, not in tandems.
The C'dale Road Tandem is much cheaper than the SANTANA Sovereign (ca.3.000€ versus ca.5.500€), but the size options are poor, warranty is limited to 2 years and I trust more in 160mm rear spacing.
SANTANA's dealer is 40km far from us. It's only a small shop, but we are impressed about all the customerfriendly selling steps. We did an extended test ride together with the dealer and learned lots about the right way of tandeming.
Well, about "good weather" biker:
You should know, now I'm 38 years old. 15 years before I did some Triathlon competitions (only european distance, because one day consists of only 24hours and I was surely employed...). Today it is much more comfortable to spend sparetime in the fitness club (including sauna!!) in case of bad weather instead of biking in cold and wet clothing...
wish you a nice weekend!!

Yes, I can see your point!

At any rate, enjoy the tandem .
