Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? I don't know how some people can look the stereotype so damn well. From the knickers, the top tube pad, the pink V's, lack of brakes, etc - this dude is really hip. Also, possibly toothless.

I think he's intentionally out far enough to miss the door.

I don't know the rest of the story. Just a random pic found using Stumble.

I just thought that it captured that hipster look many are striving for.

Dood is totally motionless. Halfway into his nat fab to show that car what he really thinks about those freaky sliding doors.

That door is pretty cool. If I had a car, I'd wish it had doors like that. It's always struck me as odd that minivans are the only vehicles that really do that.

It's just shot w/ a long lens. The guy could be 5' away from the door and you wouldn't be able to tell from that angle.

+eleventy. It should be like that for all 2-door cars. 4-doors make it a little tricky, though...

I remember seeing concepts for 2 door commuting cars for it a long time ago, but like all things in the car industry it just adds cost so they don't do it.

Meanwhile you either live with dinged up doors or pay out of pocket to fix the paint.

1. like ralph and pound said, it's a staged ad for a ?peugot? i think, meant to show why their doors are better than all others. EDIT: of course, as i typed it, syntax linked to it. peugot is right, and i'm a genius.

2. with a telephoto lens, space and depth is visually compressed.
he's probably about a foot away from the open front car door, but it looks like he's going to get door'd because of the focal length.

3. this ad assumes that bicyclists are at fault for running into doors because they don't look, rather than the door opener for opening the door without looking or leaving it open while they get stuff out of their passenger seat. which is the only thing i don't love about it.

Look at where his cranks are. He's not moving forward. He's most likely being braced against the front car, as this would be obscured by the angle of view. Or he's very good at trackstands. But he's not moving forward.

I don't think so. The woman opening the door of the car isn't paying attention either. In fact she's not paying attention to ANYTHING whereas the messenger is checking out the other car.
