Youngsters and MTB

I was wondering what you all knew about really small MTBs. My lil 6 yr old brother currently rides a GaryFisher with 20" wheels. He needs to step up to some 24" and something that performs better. His bike now seems to slow him up a little due to the 7 gears and heavy components etc... So what are some higher quality bikes with 24" wheels fit for kids?

Jamis makes some 12" frames that might work, also there is the Kona Stinky Jr. if you dont' mind spending the money.
