TDSB (Tour de Santa Barbara), Mad Max and His Thunderdome - Feb. 2nd, 2008
This route was mapped very graciously by Mkadam68, tinkered with by many, and three you have it! Thank you, gentlemen!
Date: Saturday, February 2, 2008
Start: Amtrak Station, 7724 Van Nuys Blvd., Van Nuys, CA 91405 (parking is free on lot)
Meet: 6:30am
Roll: 7:00am SHARP - No if, buts or ors about it, be there or miss the train!
Miles: 103.43 (approximately, but expect a little more)
Elevation: 6,335+ ft. (approximately, but expect a little more)
Stops: 2-3 along the way, with a lunch at the Summit or in Casitas, please pack fuel (gels, etc.) just in case.
Level: Intermediate - https://www.bikeforums.net/showpost.p...11&postcount=2
PLEASE NOTE: THIS RIDE DOES NOT HAVE SAG VEHICLES. YOU MUST BE EXPERIENCED WITH RIDING UNSUPPORTED TO DO THIS RIDE. PLEASE KNOW YOUR LIMITS AND ABILITIES BEFORE JOINING AND BE PREPARED TO TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF.

Please note: Changes will be made and a new route slip provided as we near the ride. This is for reference only.
Route slip: Joel will bring on Saturday
Link to Amtrak's website for additional information: https://tickets.amtrak.com/itd/amtrak...dule&x=19&y=13
Train Fare:$19.00 REMEMBER TO BRING ID TO BOARD THE TRAIN!
About the ride: Rain cancels. THIS RIDE IS NOT FOR BEGINNERS. We will make stops along the way to refuel, etc. and I will stop for a quick bite (real food) at some point. I'll try and determine actual stops along the route, but anyone wanting to join, please note that there will NOT be a SAG vehicle on this ride. It is self-support only, so please bring fuel, extra tubes, cash, etc. There will be plenty of places to stop along the way should anyone need to at any time. I will provide my cell phone to all of you at the beginning of the ride.
About the train: The Surfliner normally accommodates bikes. However, there is a risk that the bikes will have to be stored in the luggage car and/or we may have to pay additional fees ($15), but this is rare. I do want those of you coming to be aware, however, and not be shocked should that happen. There are two trains to choose from: 4:29pm departure and a 7:00pm departure (but we need to make it there before sun down, so we could end up going back in Carpenteria). Also, there are stations along the route should anyone want to come back earlier (please go to the Amtrak website for details). I'm sure most of you ride with ID, but please be sure to on this ride, as you will need it to board Amtrak.

+1 ... you did just fine. Beginning of the year, everyone has a fresh start, especially after the non-riding during the holidays.

I like the Summit because they have ice cream shakes.
Casitas is a much better view and comes just before the last climb of the day, Casitas Pass. They do have Gatorade. That should probably be our goal.

Is DannoXYZ going to join us? Or maybe UMD? It would be great to have a local from SB on the ride too. Danno's modified route through downtown SB was awesome.
