spare tire bike carrier-pros/cons

I'm considering a spare tire bike carrier for my Jeep. What are the pros & cons of this type of carrier? Any product recommendations?

Laurie,

I tried one, but I have a really nice tire cover and it was a bit tough on it. I already had a hitch on my Grand, so the receiver mount made the most sense for me.

I've got one for my Jeep Liberty and it works fine. I do not have a cover on the spare tire so I don't have any advice on the cover issue

I have a cover for my spare tire, but I was planning on removing it while using the bike carrier. What kind of carrier do you have? Does it keep your bike(s) stable? I was looking at the Yakima SpareROC online. It looks like a pretty good product.

Had one when I drove a Blazer and found it was ideal, very stable and carried two bikes. I used it without a cover on the tire, and sorry, I can't remember what make it was.
