Planning a BIKE PARTY!!!
For those of you that live in the West Palm area of Florida, you might have heard of 82 year old Mort Selub, who just completed 100 miles on October 6th for the Lymphoma Society. For those of you who have not, he is a recovering cancer survivor himself (diagnosed in 1999) who battled and beat non-hodgkin's lymphoma. He has been through his series of chemo treatments and thankfully has been in remission since May of 2000. Mort was televised all over the Florida news, plus been in several local newspapers for biking 100 miles for the Lymphoma Society called Team in Training. Anyway, Mort is my very good friend's father and a real gem.
Well, since Mort completed his goal of 100 miles on October 6, we would like to throw him a victory party.... or as Mort calls it.... a 'Selub-Eight' party when he comes to New York in November.
In doing so, we thought of some great ideas, but I would love to hear others. If anyone has some great party ideas with a bike theme, please let me know.
I plan to decorate my apartment with bike parts, jerseys, and of course my bike, since his is down in Florida. Another must, is a bike cake.
Hmm, what else?

How about a simple cake with two round layers side by side decorated as wheels, with spokes, tires, etc.?
A mobile made of old cogs suspended from spokes? (Hmm, wonder if something like that would make enough noise to be a wind chime?)
Garland of used chains strung together?
Sounds like fun!

Marcy:
How about making a special hanging bicycle mobile for him.
Use a wheel as the center piece from which the other parts hang.
Everyone who comes to his party and his special friends who cannot come to the party can contribute a bicycle part to hang from the wheel which will make up the mobile.
If you use a couple of cut tubes from an old Chromoly frame and hang them in the center, they will make a beautiful wind chime.
That would be neat and special.

Thank you for all your great ideas so far. The mobile sounds like a must. I was thinking that all the people invited should come over wearing bike shorts and jerseys.
Pete, you crack me up with 100 female cyclists phone numbers, but I don't think his wife would appreciate it.
Does anyone know where I can download any great pictures of Lance to have Mort's face superimposed on it?
Keep the party ideas coming.....
.... and thanks again!!!
