Can't you just slide a butterknife in and pop them out?

They should just pop out. Grab 'em with pliers and pull. Some older ones have a screw with an expander plug, you'd need to slack that of course.

I've never had a problem with plugs not fitting any bar I've tried.

I usually just ride my bike for a few weeks and they pop right out. Onto the road.

I'll see your reflective bar plugs and raise you my automatic lighted bar end plugs.
