i've got a tacx workstand (not sure which model). it's ok for the money, sturdy and all does the job. the only thing i don't like is the way it clamps the bike. but i wasn't prepared to spend vast amounts of money on something better. park do a good work stand but it's over £100. the tacx one has a tool tray too which is pretty standard anyway. i'd recommend it.

I guess that is the T3000 "A"-frame design that looks like it grabs the bike by the downtube? Not the T3075 "Cycle Motion Stand" that seems to attach the bike by the dropout?

that's the one gary, the T3000. i had a look on the website for which one i had, after i put the post up. the other one looks ok.

Well, I am about to order the other one. 
I particularly like it because you can mount the bike using one or both of the dropouts (they even supply the spindles). That way the front wheel can be locked in place too.
If I do get that one, I will let you know how I like it.

Just to close this thread out ...
I was shown pictures of Pedro's 'New Repair Stand', and it is a beauty. Then, after two days of searching the Web, I finally called them. It has not been released yet because of some redesign and testing, but it looks like a great tool.
However, I didn't want to spend around $200 for one, and it won't be available until January, so I opted for an Elite Spin Doctor. Interestingly, the box and item say Performance on them, and the Performance catalog says "made in Italy", which is where Elite is located. It <i>is</i> the same piece.
And less expensive here, as I bought it in an EU country, and saved shipping, customs, etc.
Seems pretty nice. I can't wait to use it in anger.
