Frame choices
Hi all,
After a long absence i am back
. Anyhow, i moved to a new city and a few yards from my new house there is a high end lbs and a litespeed/merlin dealer. I got ill with Ti fever and i am considering changing my frame which is nevertheless brand new condition. Rockhopper 2003 HT. Also part for this Ti fever is due to various rumors i hear all the time about the veeeeery limited lifespan of alluminum. So i am either going to keep my frame for another 2-3yrs and get a Ti later or do it now and trade-in my frame for a Ti one. I am also considering high quality Steel frames and also a couple of FS alluminum ones. The problem with FS and my case is that now i live in the UK and everything is fine with customer support. In 2-3 yrs i will move eventually back to Greece where bicycle support is non-existent for some brands (most of them actually). So if i get an FS i ll have to replace bearings (which i will have to order from overseas) myself and thus voiding my warranty (Kona and Specialized are not represented in Greece by any importer/dealer....). Anyhow here are my choices.

Hey Math, you're confusing me. You get a Z-1 fork and I think you're becoming more freeride (aggroXC) oriented, and then you bust out with wanting a Ti frame! Huh?
Keep your Z-1 on your Rockhopper, ride the crap out of it, AND then build up a lightweight XC Ti bike!
You can NEVER have TOO many bikes!

A2 you mean that Ti frames are meant only for lightish xc race frames? If yes then thanks for the advice against getting a Ti frame....you really saved me a lot of money. I have fallen in love now with an FS frame which boasts lifetime warranty on frame/bearings/swingarm the Marin Attack Trail1!!!!!!!!!

Ti frames are very nice, don't get me wrong, but they are more suited to XC type riding. Why? I dunno, probably because they are SOOOOO damn expensive, that if you cased a jump and snapped the frame it would make you cry, moreso, than if you snapped a chromoly frame let's say.
The Only Ti FR that I can think of is no longer being made. I'm sure there are more out there, and obviously the custom route. I remember Litespeed had a FR hardtail called the "Kitsuma" named after a fun trail in North Carolina.
The Cove is still even more of a XC frame.
What's your budget? Are you looking for just a frame, or a complete bike?
What style of riding are you getting into these days? Still aggro XC, or more Racing XC?

I think i found myself a frame. Marin Attack Trail, 6" full suspension, lifetime warranty on frame/bearings/swingarm,,,,,this really looks like business to me, ultra heavy xc, light/mild FR/DH. My budget is 1500$ max for a frame. Obviously i want to stick with manufacturers that are also imported into Greece so that i can have warranty support there as well when i move back. What do you reckon?
