Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

the rips relieve pressure, duh.

that's a decently executed conversion though, very rideable-looking. i'm not a big fan of the solo aero lever, looks kinda awkward and unbalanced. i'd suggest rigging up a dummy one or looking for a bmx or cross lever to use. nice work though, enjoy riding it.

awesome conversion, looks fantastic.

i'd also agree with putting a dummy lever on the other side... adds both asthetics and a bullhorn type riding position.
out of curiosity, why'd you opt to put the right lever -> front brake?

Forget a dummy lever. Why not just have both brakes on there? I mean the cable guides are already there, and you already have the brake and lever. I think it would totally class that bike up though it already is pretty classy. Another way to class it up IMO would be some gumwall tires.

What NeilMonday said:

The lack of gumwall tires and a second brake / hood combo is the only thing keeping me getting on a knee and proposing to it.

Post this over in the Classic and Vintage forum. You'll be real popular over there.

Nice conversion but I second the idea of adding a rear brake. Thank goodness you didn't grind off the cable guides. I've done a couple of conversions and have a couple more on tap but I don't do anything irreversible to the bike.

Don't take any gruff about your carpet. Leave it how it is. I just cleaned mine last night then about noon today I decided to strip down my hardtail MTB and get it ready to turn it into a SS. Big black spots all over this gerber carpet now. Heres to losing your security deposit!
