Campy cable stops?
I've got a set of these on my 76 Motobecane and I'm having problems taking them off. I can get them unscrewed easy, but I'm scared of bending them in the process of getting them off.
Anyone got any tips for me?

Well, the rear cable stop is pretty thick stuff and you just spread it open enough to clear the chainstay at its narrowest part, then slide it to where you need it, careful not to scratch the paint! The cable clips are very thin and spread pretty easy. The cable router at the bottom of the down tube is a little harder, you have to spread it out very evenly and hope it does not start cracking the chrome finish before you get it open enough to clear the tube.

I've carefully bent mine out, taken them off, and replaced them several times without damage. Of course most of those times were when they were bicycle parts rather than valuable antiques.

I can add that I've broken a Campy cable guide by not bending it evenly when I was trying to remove it and thus creating a stress point. As much as you can, apply equal force from both sides as you bend it to clear the tube.

It also helps to put a single layer of tape (like black electrical vinyl) on the tube and position the clamp's sharp edges over the taped area so as to protect the paint when you slide off the clamp.

Done and done. Got the three on the top tube done with no problems, but that one back by the RD is going to be a tough little bugger to get off.
