So I pulled the triggers and ordered a 08 Cannondale frameset through my local dealer. I was going to go with a Pista Concept but there was no reliable way to getting front and rear brakes on it. Yes, I know, I'm a wuss.

Anyway, since this is my first experience with single-speed, I wanted to get some recommendations from you guys on crankset (Shimano, Campagnolo, FSA, other?) and wheelset (Velocity DP, Formula DP18, other?) options. For the wheels I'm looking for a white set with a higher profile than normal but I'm also opened to normal profiles, as long as they are white. The bike is red and white so I want to keep that look going and I might even consider red or black spokes.

So lets have it folks!

Don't really have a budget. Besides, I want to get all options and then I'll worry about cost.

If money is not a problem, for cranks I would start by suggesting either Dura-Ace FC-7600 or Sugino 75.

Both are very good and usually people prefer the 165mm version.

i have been running the DP18s since august and have been reasonably happy with them, though i plan on going with velocity fusions for my new build. i have the standard silver rims, so no direct experience with the painted ones, but i have heard that the paint on the DP18s doesnt hold up so well. and if money isnt a problem velocity's are what i would choose.

Did you get the red one? I like that paint for some reason. I think the Capo is basically a CAAD5, and those were good frames.

The Velocity's are nice and priced very well. Do you know if there is a place where you can custom pick the colors when ordering the wheels?

Also, I'll be riding this on the road, probably never on a track, will track specific wheels hold up on the road? Or are they just as durable as a regular road wheel?

I would say, if I was building your bike it would look like this...Black Sugino 75's in the 165 length, the matching bottom bracket, some white deep V's I suppose, though I would prefer some aeroheads, laced to some formula hubs or something (supposing its going to be ridden on the street).

Bens Cycles will custom build your wheels.

Track hubs generally aren't sealed as well as road hubs. Most people don't even notice this to be an issue, however.

I've never heard of Sugino, what's the deal with them? I found a place where I can buy just the cranks. Is there a chain ring that I can pair with it that would make it a nice setup? Also, do you know the weight of these puppies?

Excellent site! Thanks man. I sued their color picker and white rims, red hubs and black spokes looks so sweet. Unfortunately they are out of red hubs. They have a ton of options though. I'm going to call them.

I just scored an 06 Capo in silver for a great price. It's an AWESOME frame that is excellent for sprinting and climbing with. For parts I'd say go for the Miche Advanced crankset which is just as good as sugino and you won't be stressing the cranks to notice the difference anyway (it's cheaper than sugino, DA, or Campy and you can score the cranks, ring, and BB for under $200 from AEbike.com)

If you're looking for the bike to be very light go for Mavic OPs but otherwise go for the Velocity (with either deep v or aerohead)

I was just about to ask about the Miche Advanced. They seem really nice and the price is excellent. Other than the FSA, do any SS carbon fiber cranks exist?

Mavic Open Pros advertise as 425 grams
Velocity Aeroheads are listed 405 grams

Weight Weenies has measurements for these showing nearly identical for actual weight

Velocity Deep V's are 520 grams

WW says these are usually about 580 grams

OPs have the advantage because they are eyeleted and better quality which contributes to a longer lasting rim over the aerohead

Omnium Cranks
Phils/Atlanta 96(or velocity equivalent)
standard clips/straps(white)
White selle italia flite
campy aero post
some chrome stem, polished risers
no black on the bike except tires
vittoria rubino pro's(white)

avoid white wheels, they look tacky

White Deep V's......? If you are running brakes they are gonna look like s**t in about 2 rides. The brake pad markings will upset you I promise. You could go with machined sidewalls on the white rims, but brakes on white paint...... NFG! I have run Mavic CXP33's with Phil Wood 36 hole HF hubs and love them. Just my 2 cents.
