It's offical; The 2nd Annual BFNIC Spring Classic (& Vintage)

WHAT: Open invitation to a ride for anyone who reads this post, and their friends. Riding your vintage bike is highly encouraged but all bikes and riders are welcome.

Please note, this ride will be divided into A and B groups. This is a no drop ride but there is no SAG support.

WHEN: April 27, 2008. Start times are as follows;
West loop – meet at 8:00, start ride at 8:30 am.
East loop, A riders – meet at 10:30, start ride at 11:00 am.
East loop, B riders – meet at 11:00, start ride at 11:30 am.

WHERE: Village Park parking lot in New Glarus, WI. Tour of the New Glarus Brewing Co. at the end of the ride.

Map of Village parking lot https://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=e...&view=map&z=16

FORMAT: This ride will have two groups, an A and B.

All will start the West Loop at 8:30 am. They will ride a 50 km route ending back at the starting point. The faster A group will start the East Loop at 11:00 am. They will ride a 50 km route ending back at the starting point. The B group will start the East Loop at 11:30 am. They will ride a shorter 25 km route ending back at the starting point. Riders can decide which speed/distance is best for them. It is quite hilly, 39/27 gearing is recommended.

Cue sheets, A riders https://www.h3odesign.com/BFNIC_A_Loops.pdf
Cue sheets, B riders https://www.h3odesign.com/BFNIC_B_Loops.pdf

No-Drop rule for both legs (could effect start times but probably won’t – just be flexible). Faster riders will be allowed to ride at their own speed, but a sweep rider will be available for slower riders.

Only moral support is provided. You must provide your own fluid/food for the ride. There are optional stops on both legs. The idea is that you bring your own and leave it in your car. Each time we return to the car you will then stock up for the next 50 km ride.

Cue-sheets and maps will be provided. No road markings, but some of us know the route pretty well.

Currently we have no mechanical SAG support. If someone could bring a spouse or friend to help fill that role – it would be great!

WHY: This is meant as a social ride. It is an opportunity for Bike Forums members, friends and acquaintances to get together and meet, and ride together in a group. It is also meant as an opportunity for riders to challenge themselves in a “safe environment”. If you have never ridden a Metric before you will be surrounded by a lot of riders that have that can lend you support.

Feel free to bring non-BF riders as well, but remember this is not an “organized event”. This is simply a large group ride.

Please feel free to post any questions that you might have but I'm going to be gone this week so the answer may not be that quick. Please spread the word to anyone else you think might be interested.

Why don’t we do a roll call. Who’s planning on coming and which group do you think you will be in, A or B? And if we are reeeeally lucky, maybe the illustrious botto will join the ride and regale us with ironies.

I'll be in the B group.

I'll see if we do a test run at Bull Valley this weekend and see how I stack up. No pulls in A group at best.

After some thought, I am leaning towards doing this over the Spring Forward. I will most likely hang with Kimbercop in the "C" group.

I'm about 50/50 right now. It costs me a ton to drive home from school and i'm coming home the weekend before that for some family stuff.

We'll see...

Well, let's see.....I've only ridden 20 miles on my bike this year, the weather is still crappy at home and not favorable to getting out to ride, it's only about 4 weeks till the BFNIC Spring Classic....what the heck, I'll go with the A group.

What's the group for an 11mph avg speed rider? Or is that off the charts?

Hey, you'll be ahead of me!!!!! If the hills are that bad, I'll be weaving back and forth to get up them...making my own switchbacks. Probably averaging about 11!!! This is actually very good for one's fitness because you end up riding way more mileage than, say, the Speedy who just powers up the hill, shall we say quite awesomely!!!!
