OT: My city (Burlington, VT) is hosting 1st critical mass
what should I expect?
I've heard stories about NY/Boston etc and I'm not exactly excited for the prospect of a bunch of people taking it too far and the police needing to be involved as a result

We have small ones here, I think the largest was about 50-60. Average probably 20-30 when it's warm. Never had any problems with cops or the city. One time a guy driving by did throw a water bottle at us though.
I don't think anyone has real problems with the smaller groups. We'll stop when it makes sense to, and block traffic when it makes sense to. I wouldn't worry about it, especially for the first one.
ps I was born there <3

yeah new orleans is sort of the same, usually about 20-30 people show up. we've had a few clashes with cops on bigger rides, and when people are acting particularly idiotic, but outside of that it's usually just a nice ride.

How is this off topic? Seems to me that SS/FG would be represented at a CM like any other bunch of cyclists

I set it as OT because it probably belongs in the "advocacy & safety" but I don't know any of the people in that forum and it's scary

also I started riding bikes when I was 6, as I'm sure most people have. I'm not really sure if that was supposed to be a jab at me or not, but I'm going to take the kindhearted route and assume you lived in Burlington 18+ years ago

I think the OP himself put it down as OT.

There wasn't a report, I was actually trying to participate in the thread. It looked interesting to me and I figured why not chime in? I was responding specifically to the OT in the title

Never been to a critical mass in Burlington, but was at World Naked Bike Ride a year ago, and the police were watching, waving at us, but not interfering. We did take up the whole road just like a critical mass, but ya know naked. I would expect any ride in Burlington to be light hearted and fun. It's that kinda town.
