Helmet- should I replace?
Due to my lack of bike riding my current helmet is 10 years old.
Should I replace it due to age?
It's probably only been outside a few hours or so.

If it's expanded polystyrene then the lifespan is usually 3-5years. Most helmets have a date of manufacture and some (giro I think) have an "out of date" sticker too.

Don't run red lights, wear a helmet, use hand signals, get some cycle lights(front and rear) and, FFS, don't run red lights!

-Of course, I don't use mine much anymore.
I ride recumbents though, so I'm much less likely to land on my head in the first place.
If I could find a good, moderate-priced LED helmet-mount light I might wear the helmet at night, just for the reason of the attached light. So far, I have not found such a light however.

You don't have to replace a helmet unless its damaged and recomondation for replacement are usually based on the damage criteria. If manafacturer sells more helmets than needed, that a bonus for them.

Sweat and UV also break down the foam over time. 3-5 years is probably a good timeline.
