Big headed monster

I want to know which helmet manufacturers make the largest of the large when it comes to sizing. I have a BIG head, I wear a size 8 in a fitted baseball cap. I bought a Giro hlmet a few year back in their XL size and it was too small. Just wondering about all of the different makes and models that you have had expeirence with. I am getting my road bike next week and want to be covered in the saftey department.

This is my first road bike since 84, when I had a Raliegh (dont remember which model, but it was heavy). I have just sold my MTB due to lack of use and want/need to get back in shape.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Sounds like you may need a football helmet. I have a fair sized noggin my self and the big Giro fits me fine. As far as I know they are the largest made.

You should try a Bell helmet, they are usually bigger then most other manufacturers, I have a huge melon though and I can fit fine in a 2002 Giro E2.

You may have to look at different models. They are not consistant. I tried on two different model Gyros and needed a med in one and a large in the other. Or, maybe my coconut is right on the line.

Helmet manufacturers make different shaped helmets. I have found Bell to be the best for riders with large heads. Also, if you can find one and want to spend the cash, Cratoni makes a helmet that will fit larger heads. Unfortunatly they have no distributors in the states.

Big headed melon finds shelter....

I scored a helmet that actually fits my nut . It is a Bell 03 Influx in the L size. The guy at my LBS had me try an 04 of the same model and didnt come close to fitting. There were some "sale" stacks and found an 03 that did and it was 1/2 off.

Thanks for all of your input and hopefully this will help another bucket-headed brother.

Bell Kinghead. I think it is the biggest helmet on the market, but good luck finding one. Try going straight to Bell, or ask your LBS.
