If you run a front brake you will need that hollow bolt. If you do not then you do not need it. However there are instructions on every package on how to install Gyro's.

you only need a hollow bolt stem if the frame is a one inch headtubed frame. most bikes today are 1 1/8th inch headtubes so they don't have a bolt that goes down the center of the fork steer tube.
