Yet Another First Metric Cenutry Thread

I did my first metric century today -- twice as long as my previous longest ride. I averaged 15 mph over the mostly flat route, and when I finished I felt like I could have gone farther. I'm quite happy.

One amusing incident along the way...around mile 45 I was riding along a flat stretch and came across a group of slower riders. I felt quite proud to still be passing a few people this late in the ride. Then as the number of people I was passing grew from a few to a dozen I started noticing that some of these people had just passed me a few miles before. Not catching on, I hammered away, getting up over 20 mph just before I rounded a bend and saw in front of me the biggest hill on the route. Oops. Huffing and puffing I managed to make it to the top, but I did some serious light spinning for the next mile or two.

Andy- Was this the Monster Cookie ride in Salem? If so, we shared our first metric. My time was a bit slower, this was also my wife's first metric, and I let her set the pace. so far she is enjoying road cycling, and I am doing everything in my power to make sure she keeps having a good time. Monster cookie was a great first long ride. We both loved it, and felt like we could have continued. Looking for a full imperial century next month.

Congrats, guys, on your first metric! I, too, was at the Monster Cookie. What a great day for a ride! And the MC is a wonderful course for getting folks into longer road rides. Not too many turns, breaks every 15 miles, and it's nice and flat. This stuff is addictive, isn't it? Congrats again, and enjoy a great season.

I did my first metric century (of this year) on April 26--the Tarwheel Century in Elizabeth City, NC. It was also the my first metric century on my new bike, which is a Bike Friday. It was really fun.
