Dressed Perfectly - Well, Almost!

When I left this morning for my ride, it was 36 degrees. I dressed accordingly, with a silk base layer, then an Interwear wicking second layer, followed by my PacNorthwest rainsuit pants and jacket. I wore Redhead Outlast sock liners and Smartwool socks, and an head band that protected my ears and winter cycling gloves.

It was perfect for the first half of my ride. It was like riding in the early fall or spring. Then, doom set in! The temperature started to climb, and rapidly. By the time I finished, it was over 50 and I had my jacket completely unzipped.

This is the very reason I love my winter bike! It has a rack with a trunk bag on the back. Get hot just shed some layers!

I had one of those rides last week. It started at about 39 degrees, then dropped down to 32. I'd dress ok for that temp. I was getting a bit chilly when it hit 32 though. If it had gotten lower than that, I would have probably thought about turning around. Then, it started rising. By the end of the ride it was 65 degrees. Is that wacky or what? The sweat was just pouring off me by the end. I did use layers and was able to remove quite a bit of clothing, but in the end, I just wasn't willing to stop and take off the tights, so I just suffered. LOL.
