Another set of SPD's, some shoes, a jersey, windbreaker, Cateye. Came to a few pennies over $200. Somebody's got to keep the economy going!
As to the helmet question: I'm amazed the 50+ crowd has anybody who sees the lack of helmets first. I thought it was a nice pic and appreciate the links that followed. As far as personal use of helmets, I'm all for them. They keep your head off the dirt while you're figuring out if you broke something.

*hanging my head in shame*
All I got at REI was 2 pairs of SmartWool socks.
I must become a better consumer.

How often does REI have sales - especially on bikes? Waited too long and missed the sale, bike went up $140.

Looks like a good way to get some exercise for her and to get the kids out in the fresh air. Compare that to the kids in a mini-van with two VCRs. I was shocked to read stapfam say in another thread that gas in Europe is 11 a gallon! Wow. I'd be schlepping the kids by bike, too.

Of course if their sales dip due to the economic downturn, then they might get more aggressive with their sales.

It was a great sale! Hubby bought that PI jacket he was eyeing a couple of weeks ago. Between the sale and the money you get back at the end of the year based on your purchases (what's that called again?) he was able to get a really nice jacket at a price he felt comfortable with.

The sale that just ended is the "anniversary sale," every May (I think).
I also regularly check the "Outlet" section of their website...good deals, especially on cycling apparel.
