Glucosamine
Has anyone noticed a hive type reaction to glucosamine during really hot sweaty rides??

No and I sweat profusely. About 3 months ago I started taking fish oil (8 grams a day), and glucosamine / chondroitin, and went off ibuprofin for the most part. Just switched to a glucosamine / msm product. Thats not saying it couldn't happen.

No reaction here, and I take glucosamine, with or without condroitin, daily.

I've never had this reaction to the glucosamine and I've been taking it for a few years.
Are the hives all over or located on a certain area of the body?

From Wikipedia:
"Since glucosamine is usually derived from shellfish, those allergic to shellfish may wish to avoid it."

Okay, I have no clue here. What is this stuff and why would you want to take it anyway? Does it make you go faster?

Floyd Landis tested positive for glucosamine and was stripped of his TDF win.
Or, am I thinking of something else?

Something else! --excessive testosterone. I take it too, it really seems to eliminate achy knees and arthritis flares in my fingers.
I do break out in hives, but did before I started taking it. If I work out to the point of a good sweat & am immediately after in a cool environment (like outdoors in the fall, or in air conditioning) I will get hives. Sometimes they are just localized to the legs if I have been hiking or climbing--so I think it has to do with a temperature differential.

My daughter's horse takes glucosamine. When I'm at the barn helping her clean the stalls, I usually grab a pinch out of the horse's medicine chest, just to drive her crazy. Horse joint medicine has a nice citrusy flavor -- the horse takes it with alfalfa pellets, I just take it straight w/a little water.

I take it, my wife takes it and our dog takes it. None of us have had any problems.
