New Guy Panama City FL

Hello everyone!!

I have been lurking around the forums for a few days checking everything out. Thought I would introduce myself.

I am 6'4" 280lbs. and ride motorcycles daily for transportation. I have recently gained interest in racing motorcycles. That leads to my problem I am way to big to be competitive. So I am looking at training on a road bike to loose weight.

I am looking for advice on what road bike to buy and maybe what gear I would need at good prices.

Here is a picture of my motorcycle!

Well, I don't think you will be able to go quite as fast on a road bike as you can on your motorcycle, but....you can work on it!

Check in with the Clydesdales/Athenas forum--they are the experts on bikes for folks your size. By the way, 'Clydesdale' is a cycling racing term, referring to riders who are over 200 pounds, or over 6 feet tall. So, you can still be competitive!

Welcome to BF, and feel free to PM me with any questions !

Welcome DannonYogurt. Did you look around at some of the pix and read a few posts? This is a bicycle forum. If you want to talk bicycles then by all means ask away in the Clydesdale forum or any other forum that you think may have the answers.

EH, do you think the op meant "road bike" as in ...

Maybe I'm wrong. Wouldn't be the first time.

DannonYogurt, if you're talking about a bicycle, visit the Commuting forum. Many of us commute to work and do errands on a bicycle. When I started commuting in 2001 I lost ~20 pounds in 3 months and I was eating everything in sight. My commute was 14 miles one way.

Nah, DannonYogurt is in the right place. He's looking at riding a bicycle to slim down for competitive motorcycle riding.

Clydesdales will be able to give him some good tips.

It's amazing how soon you come back actually. Soon that 2.5 miles turns into ten, and then 25, and before you know it...a metric century....a century.... .
