Cycling Stupidity: 415 edition

I was just down in embarcadero picking something up. In my 10 minutes while searching for the frig'n freeway, which I can never find because SF's streets are moronic. 3 times cyclist darted out, right in front of cars, not with lights or clearance in their favor, in front of me. Just went in front of us and we had to slam our brakes. Only one instance a cyclist was in his bike lane, and some white old phart driving a red corvette musta held his horn down for a good minute long at him for going so slow. Sometimes, I wonder if cyclists are a bit more responsible for what comes upon them.

Well fine then. My story wasn't interest enough.

Well, I saw a cyclist cut me off. But he wasn't an ordinary cyclist, he was some kind of neon green man evolved dolphin hipster cyclist with his pant leg rolled up. He flipped me off with his fin and pissed some kind of clear fluid at my window out of his blow hole. It began to slowly melt the glass off my windshield.

Discuss.

Bikes: Turner Flux, Orbea Onix Dama.

You need to add something about your girlfriend, then people will be interested.

Or food. Or bowel movements - that one always works.

*edit* Now this isn't in foo anymore, my comment makes me look like an asshat. Great.

This thread has nothing to do with advocacy and safety. It is hence ruined.

Not really. I would have been more sorry if I hit the guy and crushed every bone in his body. I've never seen a cyclist dart out perpendicular to a main drag while the traffic was going 30mph and expect everyone to slam there brakes. At least not 3 times within 10 minutes.

Bikes: who cares?

I think that freeway collapsed in the '89 quake and they didn't rebuild it, no wonder you couldn't find it!

It doesn't have anything to do with safety? Were you not being a safe driver?

In bicycling, momentum is everything. A body in motion sure for hell doesn't want to slow down. Cars can accellerate at will.

And therein lies much of our problems.

I know what you mean. Sounds like motorcyclists on the freeway in Atlanta.

Cycling Stupidity

I live in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada where it is illegal to ride a
bicycle with a wheel diameter greater than 400mm (16") on a sidewalk,
but it doesn't seem to stop anyone and this bylaw it isn't enforced. When
I'm on a sidewalk, I'm a pedestrian, and having a Mountain Bike pass me
on a 4' wide sidewalk is not a safe experience at all.
When I'm on the sidewalk, I'm usually walking my dog (70kg), and again,
having someone pass me at speed on a 4' wide sidewalk when I'm trying
haul my dog up onto someone's lawn to avoid an unpleasant situation is not
fair to those of us that obey the laws.
I'm not knocking Bicyclists, but the sidewalks are for pedestrians here &
for those bicycles with a wheel diameter of 400mm (16") or less (=Children).
Bicycles here are considered "vehicles" and must follow the same rules of
the road as other vehicles but very few bicyclers seem to do so. I personally
believe there is a great need for some educational enforcement on this issue.
I wouldn't dream of driving my CB750K on the sidewalks, or to a corner
and through a red light (even though I'm driving across the street in a cross
walk against that same red light) or in traffic in the winter, as that would be
dangerously dumb on my part. Not everyone on a bicycle or a motorcycle
or a truck is an idiot, but the ones that ignore the law are not helping the rest
of us. I'm not picking on Bicyclers here; just the ones that think the Law is just
for other people.

We need to invite Pheard to the wonderful, wacky world of Cranky and Really Old Bikes . Hey, if Maximan1 can invade our sacred precincts, I think Pheard would enjoy himself .
