Seems like it. He's using the bushnell BB, which is made somewhere in the Pac NW by a couple of guys. Riding other bikes, he really got down on horizontal drops. You gotta crush the bolts to get the thing to not slide in the dropouts.
which also pointed to disc brakes. I've never experienced it, but, on some other single speeds he had, when you are standing and climbing, the flex of the frame and wheels makes the pads rub with regular brakes. I couldn't imagine it, and I weigh 100lbs more than he does.
The fork is pretty wild too. I don't know much about mtbs, but it has a cable lockout thing on the handlebars to make the fork rigid. So you can pedal hard with total energy transfer. That's what it came down to. efficient energy transfer. You'd be talking in the garage about bikes, before he started onecycles, and all of his reviews of his own personal single speed bikes were, "that's a piece of shart." So all of his complaints about the other bikes, he tried to correct. I've really been impressed with what he's done. he's going to be going around to races this summer.

I'm excited for my friend, wanting to see what people think. Not the first duplicate thread in the forums by any means. He's created something unique, with passion, and is trying to live his dreams.

Far overpriced for what's offered.

Most boutique bike companies survive because they do something innovative that people like. Some have 2 rear shocks (2stage), some have specially developed suspension (I'm thinking of Maverick and Foes), some allow custom geometry (IF), some are simply cheap (Transition, in its early days), some offer excellent CS (also Transition)

This company has nothing that sets it apart. And words like "unique" and "passion" are simply marketing gimmicks. If it was competitvely priced, people MIGHT consider it, but as it stands, I think your friend is on a losing business venture.

Sorry.

looks like an average chinese frame. It's SS and aluminum? I'd rather have a steel SS frame. Nothing special about the bike. It looks average at best.

Part of trying to do something new is to deal with criticism. I've got 4 Trek bike boxes in the basement, they all say made in China. He knows it is not going to appeal to mass produced bike consumers, people who look deeper are the demo he seeks. The frames are proudly made in the USA.
He doesn't want to look cool on the campus/coffee shop bike rack. He thinks my skinny tube low performance single speed is a piece.

Don't you see? That's exactly the problem. He ISN'T doing anything new.

Besides, just because something is from China or Taiwan doesn't mean it is necessarily of a lower quality, in the same way that just because something is from the States means it is of a higher quality.

It is an Aluminum, vertical dropout, disc brake singlespeed. Ain't many others, are there? I think it is worth a deeper look, he had custom made dropouts to get the angle he wanted for tire changes. He is definitely wanting to get the bike to riders, not just SS owners.
Please, be thoughtful before you just reply it is a failure!

Okay, that may have been hasty.

There are plenty of aluminum frames out there that have vertical dropouts and disc brake mounts. Any frame can be singlespeed.

It's not a failure...hopefully. It's just not a boutique brand like it's priced. Why pay Litespeed or Titus prices for a no-name?

The description says it's tough...is that b/c theres a gusset under the head tube? The rear triangle looks a little puny for Alu. I'd break it quickly. I'm not talking about being some idiot 14y.o. dropping off a set of stairs.

So the only thing that makes it unique is that it's got vertical dropouts?

Ad says: # Large-diameter butted tubes for a smooth, compliant ride on a frame that's strong and light

Large diameter aluminum is far from compliant and smooth. It's actually harsh.

Great feedback chelboed.
Some of your responses are over my head because I have barely ridden mtn bikes since the late 90's! I'm not sure about Aluminum ride quality off road, but I do know that Cannondale has been a major player in the mtb industry with large dia Alu tubes. The Cannondales on ebay get bid on ferociously, even skinny tire road bikes that would be even more sensitive to vibration than fat tire bikes.
I don't know about frame warranty either. do you buy a bike thinking you'll need one? I can only think of the Tommy Boy guarantee scene when this comes up with any product. I don't worry about it. My pickup has a 50,000 mile warranty, but it has over 200K on it.

not to knock you to hard. Its a good thing hes trying. Its always good to get new ideas and stuff.Just i agree the price seems a little high.
has he though of maybe selling his design plans to a bigger compnay and see what they can do with it?

If the owner can't lower the price and still keep the company afloat, I think selling the design to a bigger company might be worthwhile venture. However I would acquire some kind of patent and legal advice before contacting anyone.

Personally I don't have an expert opinion but I like the bike's design. It doesnt strike me as that "original" though.
