MAVIC Freehub

I've posted on this once before, but still need some help...

How does one re-lube a Mavic Classic Elite freehub. I've read through, but find no reference on, the Barnett stuff.

I've taken the cassette off, pulled the axle, and still..nothing obvious. I know the bearings are sealed so I wont' mess with them, but I've also had LBS lube the free hub mechanism....what are they doing in this procedure?

Thanks

You should be able to gently lift the freehub body off of the hub now if you have removed the axle and cassette. Be careful not to lift it too fast because if you do the springs and pawls might go flying - and they are quite small. Pay attention to where the springs sit in their holes and where the pawls go and lift them out of their slots. Clean it all out and use some sort of light lubricant on the pawls/springs when reinstalling them. Light lube is important to keep the parts from sticking down, because if they stick down then they wont catch the freehub body and you will plant your knee firmly in the side of your stem.

Ryan,

Is there some trick to this? It was not at all obvious how to remove the freehub mechanism from the hub itself. I pulled and twisted...nada.

Again, my wheels are Mavic Classic Elite.

thanks

You could try to go to your LBS and ask them what is done, if they have done it before. Im pretty sure they wont make you pay for any information, and if they do, refuse to pay money, you shouldnt have to pay money for words. Find another LBS, if this does happen, there obviously not interested in helping customers if they refuse.
sorry about the font
