Which bedtime snack?
So whats the better bedtime snack so not to gain weight, just maintain or even lose a bit.
A bowl of cereal (Life or Cheerios) w/ 2% milk or a small bowl of cottage cheese w/ a few cashews and a small spoon full of strawberry jam?
If I don't have a snack before bed, I usually wake up around 2am w/ my stomach growling. I eat dinner around 7:30'ish, but by my 10pm bedtime I'm feeling a little hungry. I've tried an piece of fruit or just a glass of milk, but it doesn't do the trick. I wake up in the middle of the night hungry again and I don't sleep well. I have a calorie burning job and have small healthy snacks through out the day.
As a little background, over the past 3 years I've lost 40+lbs on a change of diet and lots of hours on the bike. I'm pretty lean now and just trying to drop the last 5lbs or as the least maintain my current weight.
So I'm curious about the answers as to what is better for me so not to gain weight while I sleep.
Thanks

Fruit ... a banana, several slices of cantelope, etc.
Or sugar-free yogurt.

casein protein. or glass of non-fat milk /w cereal or without. Casein protein does the trick for me and it makes for a great thing to drink the night after long hard rides, keeps your body from feeding off your muscle and helps the recovery process along much faster.

Cereal would be fine, but look at the ingredients on the ones you have chosen. Cheerios may start with whole grain oats, but all that added modified starch is just turned into simple sugar by your body (not to mention the sugar in them). Life is worse.
Try some Grape Nuts in non-fat vanilla yogurt with some fresh berries. Whole grain, protein, antioxidants. I prefer the Kashi organic nuggets, but Grape Nuts will do.

I prefer the bowl of cereal. It's hard for me to have just one bowl, but if I go with a more filling, protein-rich snack, I usually don't feel so good the next morning.
With the bowl of cereal, it digests easily, so my stomach feels fine in the morning, and I also feel energized.

i find that bananas are really good...they're easy to digest, fill you up don't lie on your stomach, and help you get to sleep! Along with a glass of milk..(lactaid for me)

That's what I was wondering too. Especially since the OP mentions losing weight.
If you wake up in the night, have a drink of some kind next to you ahead of time. Maybe that will halp.
