Bringing home the bananas

I put bananas in a rather soft bag in my rear rack, but they still get a little bruised and turn brown quicker than when car shopping. Anyone got a good way to keep them looking good?

Red face

I feel your pain as I hate bruised bananas!... I put my bananas on top of whatever else I'm carrying. If I have a jacket with me I'll wrap them in that. I generally get them home without much damage...occasionally I'll have one that gets KIA, but I have friends who like mangled bananas so I just pawn the broken ones off on them...

I've used a shoe box to get them home.

I've got a big roll of bubble wrap from the last time I moved. Maybe I should just cut off a section of that and keep it on my bike.

Well, you can't fit every banana into it but a lot fit. My dad uses one when he commutes - it's worked pretty well.

You could also use the banana guard!

- although @ $30 for a 5 pack you may want to take your chances!...

O, boy...who knew? You could always use the smushed ones to make banana bread or banana ice cream!

Bikes: Giant Excursion, Raleigh Sports, Raleigh R.S.W. Compact, Motobecane? and about 20 more! OMG

Mine go in the front basket on top of something soft, like a jacket. I also buy the discounted ones for ice cream and banana nut bread/muffins.

I've never had this problem... invariably, my bananas seem to end up in my tummy before getting all the way home

However, I've used a backpack to transport fragiles such as fresh eggs to avoid breakage, with great success. My body isolates the contents from road induced bumps & vibration.

Bikes: a mountain bike with a cargo box on the back and aero bars on the front. an old well-worn dahon folding bike

For some this won't work, but I often eat a banana on the day I go to the store. It's my snack to get me the rest of the way home from work with a small load of groceries.

I go to the store often.
