Just wanted to say hello

Hi All,
I just found the forums, and, became a registered member. I started riding again four months ago for the first time since I was sixteen. I started riding for the exercise, since I had to give up many of the athletic endeavors I had prior to surgery earlier this year. I had no anticipation that I would take to riding like I have. While it is a great form of exercise, I had forgotten how much I enjoy the ride. Just being outside, and, moving around under my own power, and, feeling the wind and elements on my face.

I've also taken to using my bike for trips I might have used my vehicle for before I started riding. I've found it fits very well into my decision to simplify my life. Before my surgery I was on a fast track to a heart attack. I am, or was, a hardcore, type-A personality. I worked in my business at least twelve hours a day during the week, and, many hours on the weekend. Vacations were few and far between. Time with my family was also scarce. While I was accumulating plenty of cash, and, lots of possessions, I never took time to enjoy anything.

Well, to make a long story short, my outlook and perceptions changed after developing some potentially life-threatening conditions, and, a quality-of-life changing condition. It sounds very cliche, but, I'm living proof it's a very real situation. Since then, I've made too many changes in my life to list, but, my bike is not only a large part of the changes, but, representative of the paradigm-shift in thinking I've had as to what represents a "good life". I'm not where I plan to be, but, I've made significant progress - both in health and way of thinking.

Thanks for reading, and, I look forward to learning a lot about cycling and more.

Welcome aboard BikenGolf!

It's always good to hear of someone else getting on the bike. I'm glad you're experiencing such positive changes. Stick around. I think you'll like it here. The community is a lot tighter than I've seen on other forums, and the man in charge is super spiffy-keen too. Glad to have you with us!

I just wanted to thank everyone for the warm welcomes. My recovery is coming along great, and, I'm healthier now than I've been in years. I only wish I hadn't stopped riding all of those years ago. Like many things in life, it takes an adverse situation to effect change for the better. I look forward to participating in, and, learning from the forums. I'm hooked.
