Personal Road Racing Goals for 2004

Well what are your personal goals for the 2004 year?

I have in mind to:
Do really well in the Schools Time Trials
Crack the hour for a 40km Time Trial
Complete the 196km K2 challenge (hilly terrain for the whole race)
Complete the Around Lake Taupo Century in a time well under 5hrs.

To do some of this I am:
Saving for a Cervelo Soloist 105 bike (aero frame)
Aerobars
Aero wheels

I'd like to win states and place at nationals. Definately high hopes, but before you can acheive the goals you have to aim for them.

Good luck, Joe. You may feel that you're in cat 3 shape but you'll be blown away when you see how fast your first cat 5 race is.

Good thread!

My goals are to ride a 30km time trial in 55 minutes.
Place in the top half of the field in a sprint triathlon.
Complete an olympic distance triathlon.
Ride "Vättern Runt" (Around Vättern) - a 300km cycle race around Sweden's 2nd largest lake. I'm aiming for a time under 12 hours.

This will be my second season of racing and I think that my goals are achievable at least.

I sure hope so, because this is one of mine. Which I already achieved on Saturday (pats self on back).

Next Saturday I'm going to do my first crit. I guess my goal is to finish respectably and maybe win a prime.

This summer I'd like to average 23mph in the bike leg of an Olympic distance tri.

Figure being able to ride 25-30 MPH in a pack (depending on the course) for 45 minutes to an hour or so, then be able to bop it up another 3-5 MPH to race to the finish. For a CAT V race. The last CAT V race I helped officiate, average speed was 29 MPH for 35 miles on a fairly flat course. The same day CAT III was same speed for 50 miles. With a sprint finish.

If you are not doing this yet, suggest riding with a team, and if you can, find one with practice races.

If you already know this, good luck. BTW...one of the employees in the shop where I work is CAT III. Trains 2 hours per day on the inside trainer, then lifts weights, then runs. Power Tap, HAC 4 Ciclosport computer. Knows all his levels and heartrate thresholds. And knows how much he needs to raise his lactate level to compete, regularly, for podiums at CAT III. He wants to get to CAT II.

Luck to you!!

I just joined a team! I am in the 50+ catagory. I have never raced, so I am looking forward to finishing a race (in one piece!!). If I survive that, I will see waht I can do to move up in the pack and maybe finish at the front of the pack. I haven't tested myself agains guys who have been racing for a while, so I have no idea what I can REALLY do.

Results will be posted later (but not on OLN)

I do not race save for two events:
They are both against Trek employees and I will win one, and come in about 20th in the other (the riders in one of the races are Cat racers).

I'm just getting back into riding so I would like to find a race/charity ride to do in Spring/Summer to see what I'm capable of. I try to ride 20 miles a day with 2 days off and am going to up that in about a month

Sherpa,

Are you planning on doing road races or crits? I think the first NorCal RR is Patterson RR.

My primary goal this summer is to beat all the roadies in the Avita Black Bear 100 mile point to point race. An average speed for the course will need to be in the 26 mph average to reach my sub 4 hour solo goal.

First off, joining a club Luckily there's a really good one a few minutes from my uni halls.

As for actually riding, I just want to get my average speed up to at least 20mph (currently at 13-14mph ), and maybe enter a TT or two, and possibly do a few track tasters. This season is going to be more preperation for next year than actual competition.

Right now I am doing the Early bird crits in Fremont. I slacked off on my training the last couple months so the crits have been tough ones. Last week was a horrible race for me and I was dropped like a sack of potatoes. I am not sure if I am really ready for the 48 mile Patterson RR yet. Still got a week and a half to decide.
