I just got a Trek 2000 road bike.... for commuting and recreational purposes. lots of hills but a little bit of rough streets too. what would be the best wider/more-off-roadish tires I could get for this bike???

There are so many brands of tires. I am not familiar with the Trek 2000 but would guess you can easily go to a 700x28 tire and maybe even a x32 tires if you leave any fenders off. A Local Bike Shop (LBS) cold answer the problem quickly. No LBS? Find a local bike club and ask. I tried the Trek company web site but it seems to not like Firefox.
